Vision Walk 2016

Chicago, IL – Since 2006, VisionWalk has raised more than $39 million for research to cure blindness, and these fundraising efforts are coming to Chicago. In partnership with local doctors and sponsors, this organization hopes to raise money to fund the research necessary to find a cure for blinding retinal diseases.

On June 12, 2016, the non-profit organization is hosting the 11th annual Chicago VisionWalk, which is an opportunity for the community to participate in these fundraising efforts. The fun run will happen in the Elk Grove Village area, and the details can be found on the fightblindness.org website.

Over 10 million Americans suffer from blinding degenerative retinal diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, and Usher syndrome. The fundraising efforts provide the money needed to understand the treatments that can be used to cure these blinding diseases.

“It is amazing to see so many people come together to support such an important cause,” said Dr. Mona Sood, OD at Village Eyecare. “We are raising this money for awareness and research in our community, to assist individuals suffering from retinal disease.”

Dr. Sood’s passion for eye care started over twenty years ago when she volunteered in India at a school for the blind. Together with her husband, Dr. Satti Sarai, OD and the rest of the Village EyeCare staff, Dr. Sood will be supporting the VisionWalk fundraising efforts with a booth set up at the event.

Each participant in the fun run will receive a Village Eyecare t-shirt, and there will be a presentation and refreshments at the event. Donations will be used to fund cures and treatments for blinding retinal diseases.

For more information about this upcoming fundraiser, talk with Dr. Sood at Village Eyecare, or visit the VisionWalk website to see details about the fun run.
