Clearer Vision with Anti-Reflective Coating

Anti-reflective coating (also known as AR coating or anti-glare coating) minimizes any reflections at the front and back of the lenses. It allows 99.5 % of light to pass through the lenses and enter the eye for clear and sharp vision.

Anti-glare coating is particularly beneficial for those with a high refractive error. Those with a high prescription tend to reflect 50% more light from the surface of the lens than regular lenses. This can be particularly challenging during low-light conditions, such as when driving at night.

From an aesthetic perspective, AR coating makes your lenses look nearly invisible, which allows people to see your eyes and facial expressions more clearly. Furthermore, because these lenses are more attractive, you can look your best in all lighting conditions.

Want sharper and clearer vision? Consider getting lenses with anti-reflective coating. Dr. Satti Sarai at Village Eye Care will provide you with the coating best suited to all your lifestyle needs.

Why Get Anti-Reflective Coating?

AR coating offers sharper vision with less glare (perfect for driving at night), and greater comfort when looking into a computer screen over a prolonged period of time.

Furthermore, AR coatings are great for sunglasses. When the sun shines from behind you, it eliminates glares from the back surface of the tinted lenses. In fact, AR coating is generally applied only to the back surface of sunglass lenses because there are no benefits in adding it to the front of dark-tinted lenses.

Most AR lenses include hydrophobic surface treatments to repel water (and thus prevent water spots). Certain lenses also include oleophobic (also known as lipophobic), which repel both water and oil.

How Does Anti-Reflective Coating Work?

Each brand uses its own AR coating formula. Anti-reflective coatings are composed of several microscopic layers of metallic oxides of high and low index of refraction. Because each layer affects different wavelengths of light, the more layers there are, the more reflections are neutralized. Certain high-quality AR coatings contain up to seven layers.

Dr. Sarai might suggest a specific type or brand of anti-reflective coating in accordance with your work and lifestyle. For example, if you work at a computer all day, an AR coating that filters out blue light would be recommended.

How to Clean Your Anti-Reflective Lenses

When it comes to cleaning AR-coated lenses, Dr. Sarai will recommend you use specific products, as certain lens cleaners with harsh chemicals could damage the anti-reflective coating. Make sure to wet your lenses first when cleaning your AR-coated lenses, since using a dry cloth on a dry lens could scratch the lens.

Given all these benefits, the next time you buy a pair of glasses – consider getting anti-reflective lenses!

In addition to our extensive collection of glasses and sunglasses, at Village Eye Care, we offer several brands and types of anti-reflective coatings to suit each patient’s unique requirements. Ask Dr. Sarai at Village Eye Care which anti-reflective coating is most suited for your lifestyle needs.
