Dr. Abigal Gonsalves OD (Associate Optometrist)
Dr. Gonsalves has been passionate about eye care since needing glasses as a child. She understands the importance of how systemic medical conditions can impact the eye and strives to offer patients a personalized eye exam to fit their individual eye care needs.
Dr. Gonsalves has experience in treating and managing patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, and other ocular pathologies. She also has experience in fitting specialty contact lenses. She enjoys connecting with patients and educating them on the importance of ocular health.
Dr. Gonsalves was raised in Chicago. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Chicago. She completed her doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry and received honors in her clinical rotations. She participated in a mission trip to Mexico and provided eye exams and free glasses to underserved communities. She completed her residency training at the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center with specialization in ocular disease and low vision.
Dr. Gonsalves is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Illinois Optometric Association. She previously served as the Vice President of VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) Illinois and hopes to participate in more mission trips to provide eye care to communities that don’t have it readily available.
Outside of work, Dr. Gonsalves enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves traveling, hiking, baking, and cooking.
